Deadline: November 26th, 2023
The Physical Cosmology group at the University Observatory of the Faculty of Physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and the DAMTP Centre for Theoretical Cosmology (together with the Kavli Institute for Cosmology) announce the opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the area of cosmology within the framework of the LMU–Cambridge strategic partnership. Scientists with a PhD degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Mathematics or related fields are invited to apply. Successful applicants will be expected to conduct original research in the field of cosmology in an active interdisciplinary environment and to help foster collaboration activities between the two institutions. The position is for the first two years located at Ludwig-Maximilians-University and for the following two years at the University of Cambridge.
We aim to fill the position from as early as possible, but the latest in October 2024. The position is linked to the research group under the lead of Professor Jochen Weller at the LMU Observatory and then in Cambridge at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology and the Kavli Institute for Cosmology. We are looking for a person with a background in either theoretical, phenomenological, or observational cosmology including the areas of early-Universe cosmology, large-scale structure, or the cosmic microwave background. In addition, there will be the possibility, subject to successful negotiation, to work within the Dark Energy Survey (DES), Euclid, DESI, LSST DESC, the Simons Observatory, eRosita and SKA.
The salary is for the first two years paid according to the German public service pay agreement TV-L E13. The advancement of women in science is an integral part of the University’s policy. Therefore, women are especially encouraged to apply. Persons with disabilities will be given preference to other applicants with equal qualifications. Subsequently, at the University of Cambridge the position will be appointed at Grade 7 with a salary currently in the range £34,309–£42,155. The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society. We particularly welcome applications from women and/or candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in DAMTP.
Applicants should prepare a covering letter and the following documents as pdf files: CV, publication list, past research activities and future plans. Applicants should arrange at least three letters of recommendation to be sent to the address below (preferably electronically by e-mail to jochen.weller@lmu.de and GR-secretary@damtp.cam.ac.uk). The closing date for receipt of applications is November 26, 2023.
